Portal Milling

Milling is a machining process to subtract material. Material is removed by the milling tool rotating around its axis at high speed (up to 24,000rpm). We use 3-axis portal milling machines to mill molded parts from plates and to produce tools. With 3-axis milling, a drill head is moved along the X-Y-Z axes (up to 2050 x 3050 x 270mm) to machine the workpiece. In this way, straight sheets, 3D bodies and bores can be created. We use CAM programs for numerical control to create a milling program. This enables us to achieve a high level of precision and can produce automatically and repeatably (up to 0.02mm). With automatic tool changers, we can carry out various processing steps quickly.

Special Features for Plastic, Fleece and Wood

Unlike many other companies, we generally do not process metals, but plastics, nonwovens and wood. This differs in the type of milling machines, but also in the milling cutters and the required material knowledge. The basis for the best milling results is to fix the part or the board to be milled, for example using a multi-zone vacuum table. How to create warp-free workpieces. The milling cutter used for the plastic is very sharp and moves extremely quickly. There are special spindles specially designed for plastics. Consistent cooling of tools and workpieces via minimum quantity lubrication / spray cooling is necessary for plastic milling, since these can melt even at low temperatures. This requires a precise adaptation of the milling cutter to the material. Since plastics are very different, it is often necessary to test here to find the optimal combination of driving speed, speed (up to 10m / min) and revolutions.

Precise Coordination and Programming

Every project and every material is individual and we also map this process with us. To do this, we combine CAM-controlled programming with test trials in order to find the optimal processing.
